With an estimated 317 million active users on Twitter each month, it is no surprise that this is a very effective method for reaching a large audience from across the world!

Here are some of our top ideas for tweeting before an annual conference.

HASHTAG
Create a hashtag that is unique, relevant and memorable. Make sure to use this hashtag in every tweet and encourage others to do the same. Remember, Twitter only allows 140 characters so keep it short!

PLAN AHEAD
There are so many free and easy tools available online which allow you to schedule your tweets to send in advance.

We recommend using TweetDeck and Hootsuite.

BE INTERESTING
Try and tweet interesting facts about your event including how many delegates are attending and from how many different countries, how many cups of tea will be served and how many biscuits will be eaten.

THE COUNTDOWN
The trick with Twitter is to tweet often as they don’t last long on feeds. If your event is just around the corner, why not tweet every day with a countdown until the event date and how they can still register to attend.

IMPORTANT DATES
Make sure and inform your delegates about important dates including an early bird discount, abstract submission, accommodation booking and booking for social events.

SAY THANK YOU
Reward your sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and delegates by saying thank you and including their Twitter handles in tweets.

INTERACTION
There is little point in sending out tweets and not responding to replies! Make sure to interact with your followers and by doing so, your tweets will have a greater reach and drive traffic to where you want it to go.

INVOLVE OTHERS
Encourage sponsors, exhibitors and speakers to tweet about the event. To ensure this happens, you can supply pre-written tweets and ask them to send out in their own time!

DON’T FORGET TO MENTION
Include other associations or high profile accounts in your tweets by including their Twitter handle in the tweet. Make sure to put a full stop at the beginning of the tweet so it reaches more followers!

DID YOU SEE THAT?
If you can, try to include images alongside your tweets. Our top tip is to include images that are square, otherwise Twitter will crop and it won’t be as effective.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, Sammy is a wife, mum, and dog mum. She enjoys spending her days off with family, enjoying brunch with the girls or travelling the UK attending various music gigs and festivals. After a long day or a busy weekend, her favourite way to unwind is cuddling up on the sofa with her beloved Dudley – a wonderfully crusty old Border Collie.

 

Favourite place in the world?

Sammy aims to take at least one holiday in the sun, and one city break each year. Her favourite holiday so far has been a family trip to Tenerife where she visited Siam Park, went scuba diving with a ‘shark’ (a 10-inch bath toy) and befriended a capuchin monkey – the perfect highlight for someone who is totally animal obsessed.
