My 15 years at Fitwise

My role at Fitwise has certainly changed since that first day.

I joined as a membership administrator when we were a small team of 8, including the two directors. I thought this was going to be a straight forward job managing a couple of small membership databases but as time went on it became apparent working at Fitwise you were going to be involved in so much more including envelope stuffing, bag packing, office cleaning, attending and helping events.

I quickly moved on to the finance department where I became responsible for managing two of our clients’ accounts, with duties ranging from sales and purchase ledgers data entry, bank reconciliations to completing VAT returns. I then became involved in the setting up and implementation of standard operating procedures to allow us to apply for ISO9001 Quality management accreditation.

With the company steadily growing, we had to make the decision to move to more suitable premises that would accommodate the growth but also allow for further expansion. The MD, John Matthews, found a beautiful building set in the local village of Seafield which would be the perfect place to expand. I was given the task of facilitating the move which wasn’t an easy job but thoroughly enjoyed the challenges it posed. From this, I then took on the responsibility of Facilities/Office Manager at the new building which has allowed me to gain a wide variety of knowledge in these areas, especially the IT and telephone systems, as well as project managing the office refit.

My role changed again when I took on the role of Head of department for the Administration/Bookkeeping team as well as fulfilling the Facilities/Office and ISO9001 manager roles too. Managing a team comes with many challenges and rewards but has allowed me to gain a new set of skills that I can hopefully pass on to whoever may succeed me.

I have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience over the past 15 years which has made life at Fitwise all that more interesting, as you never know what you will be involved with next.
