Your event's route to net zero

The journey to sustainability!

What you might not realise is that Infection 360 was our first event to go through the Fitwise “Carbon Offset Your Event” initiative.

These are the steps:

1. Reducing Carbon Emissions:

Throughout the event planning process, we worked with a carbon consultant to work out the emissions for the event.  The consultant helped to provide solutions that educate, create behavioural change, and deliver a reduction of emissions at the event.

Some of the changes we made at Infection 360 were:

"The Food was the best I have had at an event like this"

a. Lunch menus at the event – A large proportion of the menu offered was vegan based food which significantly helped to reduce our footprint by up to 81%

b. Delegate Bags – We had a virtual delegate bag this year as opposed to a physical delegate bag which also helped reduce emissions

c. Virtual Speaker – Instead of flying from the United States, one of our speakers joined the event virtually (pictured) – a huge savings in carbon emissions.

d. Re-used delegate badges – The delegates were encouraged to return their delegate badge wallets and lanyards for reuse.

2. Offsetting Carbon Emission.

Following Infection 360 a questionnaire was sent to all attendees (delegates, speakers and exhibitors) to capture travel information. Consequently, this helped determine the emissions from the event.

Once the carbon is calculated there is the option to offset this.  When you carbon offset, you compensate for your emissions by funding equivalent carbon dioxide saving measures elsewhere in the world. This is done by purchasing carbon credits from a scheme that works to reduce or absorb carbon emissions. The projects you fund may be initiatives that provide lower carbon alternatives, such as cookstoves to replace open fires. They may also be projects that protect or enhance natural resources that absorb carbon from the atmosphere, such as reforestation initiatives.

Fitwise paid the £441 to offset the carbon footprint for the event, and we are delighted to have run our first net zero event.  Hopefully the start of many more.
