On 2nd March, 2015, I started as the new marketing assistant at Fitwise Management Ltd. With this being my first job in my career after receiving a BSc in Communications and an MSc in International Marketing, I didn’t know what to expect.
I knew marketing was what I wanted to do; I had previous experience in sales and an extensive background in my university career, but I had never worked as a marketing assistant in a proper role before.
I was excited and nervous at the same time. Will I know what to do? Will I make a good impression? Will I fit in?
These questions circled my mind that Monday morning.
Fast forward two months…
I have now been with Fitwise for two months and it has been the most exciting, enjoyable, and rewarding job I have ever had. From day one, every colleague has been welcoming and helpful.
I work alongside Katie and Laura in the marketing department. Laura and I have already been referred to as Laura Scotland and Laura US (as I am American) by some. But this is beside the point that they are absolutely lovely to work with and I appreciate their kindness and support from day one.
I was put in the deep end from the start, learning something new every hour. But it was not without help, motivation, and reassurance from my colleagues. I have learned more about marketing in the two months I have been with Fitwise than I have in the 7 years at university.
I typically start my day early, anywhere between 8-9am and before I know it, it’s 5 o’clock. A single day can consist of:
Putting together and implementing marketing plans
Producing and delivering press releases
Creating Twitter schedules for various clients
Organising publications for newsletters
Designing flyers, competitions, emails, surveys, cover letters, monthly reports, mailings, and various other tasks for multiple events (we have over 50 events this year!)
Phew! It makes for a busy day and I can honestly say I am loving every minute of it!
I have also recently went to one of our conferences in London to see how it all comes together. This was such a great experience to see exactly what I am marketing and finally put names to faces of those in the associations. I went down with two of my colleagues, Jennifer and Louise, and I can’t thank them enough for making my first event as much enjoyable as it was successful.
This role as a marketing assistant has made me more confident professionally and has reassured my decision in choice of career. I also could not have chosen a better company. Everyone here works as a team, and since we are employee owned, we all take pride in our roles and work hard to assure we all succeed. I look forward to what the future holds here at Fitwise Management Ltd.
